Abhinav Kalla

Owner & Director of Melbourne Pickle Club.

Sport has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Basketball was my first love growing up, the hours after school spent on the court, the obsession with the game, all of it shaped how I see competition, teamwork, and what it feels like to be part of something bigger than yourself. Coming from a family with a strong entrepreneurial streak, I always knew that somewhere down the line, I’d build something of my own. I just hadn’t found the right thing yet. Then, almost by accident, I stumbled across pickleball. I remember picking up a paddle for the first time not expecting much. It looked like a slower, smaller version of the sports I already knew. One game in, something clicked. This wasn’t just another way to break a sweat. It was something else entirely. Here’s what got me, and what still gets me every single day: pickleball might be the only sport in the world where a grandchild and their grandfather can genuinely compete on the same court, at the same time, and both walk off buzzing with the exact same joy. No sport I’d ever played did that. Coming from a family where those relationships run deep, that idea hit something personal in me. This sport doesn’t just entertain, it connects generations, it brings families back together for an afternoon, it gives people of wildly different ages, backgrounds, and abilities a genuine reason to show up and play together, as equals. That single realisation is what pulled me all the way in. I didn’t just want to play pickleball, I wanted to build a home for it. A place where that kind of connection could happen every single day, for anyone who walked through the door. Not just a facility with courts and a booking calendar, but a genuine community, one built around the belief that sport, at its best, brings people closer together instead of just keeping them busy. That’s the mission I carry into everything I do now: creating spaces, moments, and reasons for people to connect through this sport. Grandparents and grandkids, total strangers who become regular doubles partners, beginners who never thought of themselves as “sporty,” and competitors chasing their next big win. Every person, every skill level, every story, I want there to be a place for it. For me, this was never just about starting a business. It’s personal. And I’m just getting started.

Co-Owner of Melbourne Pickle Club.

If someone had told me a few years ago that I’d be helping build one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing pickleball communities, I probably wouldn’t have believed them. What first drew me to pickleball wasn’t just the game—it was the people. From the moment I stepped onto a court, I was welcomed by players who genuinely wanted to see each other improve. That sense of community was unlike anything I’d experienced before. As I played more, another side of the sport captured me. The speed, the intensity, the strategy and the pursuit of becoming a better player kept me coming back. I realised pickleball wasn’t just a game; it was something that challenged you, connected people and created lasting friendships. That experience became the foundation of Melbourne Pickle Club. Together with my co-founders, we wanted to create more than just another venue with pickleball courts. We wanted to build a place where players of every age and skill level could feel they belonged. A place where someone could walk in for their very first session and leave feeling like they’d found a community. A place where experienced players could train, compete and continue pushing themselves. A place that people would proudly call their home court. While every day looks a little different, one thing never changes: I never compromise on making sure our players leave with a smile on their face. Outside the courts, I hold a Master of Management (Finance) from the University of Melbourne and possess experience in Customer Service and Sales. Those experiences have helped shape how we build and grow the club, but the greatest lessons have come from listening to our community and continually improving what we offer. Our vision is simple. To make Melbourne Pickle Club the finest courts for Melbourne’s finest players—and, above all, a place that feels like home for everything pickleball.

Hey guys! I’m Harsha. Most of you haven’t met me yet, but I’m the one working behind the scenes to make sure you get what you deserve at MPC. I grew up in Australia my whole life, and these days I’m based in Madrid, helping steer the club’s strategy and growth from across the world. Sport has always been part of who I am, football, tennis, basketball, cricket. If there was a ball involved and people to play with, I was there. What stuck with me more than any single sport was always the people, the mates you show up with and stay close with for years after. Kalla and I have known each other since we were kids, so when he first brought pickleball into the conversation, it wasn’t really a business pitch. It was an idea about building something real together, something people could actually gather around. I’d played before with mates, but what really clicked wasn’t on court, it was the idea itself: take a sport growing fast enough to bring total strangers together, and use it to build a genuine community from the ground up. I might be managing things from Madrid, but the mission’s the same as everyone else’s here: create a place where people actually connect, not just book a court and leave. I sincerely hope every one of you has a cracker of a time at MPC and becomes part of something exciting!
